॥ Journey from Mano-Nishtha towards Ātma-Nishtha॥

रमण महर्षी's message as it occoured to me:

अहं व्रृत्ती (Feeling of "i" within us) is a subtle yet central & powerful thought in each of us. If we just take few moments to go within, we will unmistakably catch THAT... The central feeling which makes us aware of "I am". Its that "constant thought" present in each of us living being.

Ramana's message of Ātma-Vichār, in its practical implementation, is anchored on this very Aham-vritti.
This Aham-vritti, in most of us, at all times (except in deep sleep) gets attached to one chain of thoughts or the other, gets merged and drawn with it. Lets call this phenomena happening to Aham-vritti as "Mano-Nishtha" (मनो निष्ठा). An aspirant's efforts lies in separating this Aham-vritti (i feeling/i thought) from Mano-Nishtha and engage it with a thought of asking it about "It's own source". This can be achieved through generating various questions (thoughts) such as - who am I / who is this / from where this arises / where is the origin of i / etc..  Lets call this phenomena of disengaging  Aham-vritti from Mano-Nishtha by engaging it with one or more of such one-pointed questioning/enquiring, as "Ātma-Nishtha" (आत्म निष्ठा). The powerful thought which impels an aspirant into switching from Mano-nishtha to Atman-Nishtha is that power of Ātman present in all of us which is termed as "Viveka" (Discriminating faculty-thought).
Mano-Nishtha (letting Aham-vritti drawn into any of uncounted thoughts other than that of Ātman) is the default mode in most of us since time immemorial. Ramana Maharshi asked serious and sincere aspirants to shift from this Mano-Nishtha to Atma-Nishtha. He also gave the infallible key to achieve that. Interested Aspirants needs to keep doing that until Ātma-Nishtha becomes more & more natural and finally gets established as default mode replacing Mano-Nishtha which, he says, will ultimately result into perishing of  this false-tiny-individual centric Aham-vritti (along with its whole monument called Mind & world) and replaced by आत्मा

i personally saw one most important thing in this method. The mighty Mind (hotbed of uncountable thoughts) is effectively tamed and finally killed by way of "ignoring & rejecting". I am a beginner & novice myself who needs to plod on to experience if this indeed is true. However, there is complete faith in Ramana Guru's words and the method also looks fully satisfactory to the discriminating faculty.

Ending this by yet another quote from Maharshi which, in my opinion, is the crux of all Spiritual Sādhanās.

"The true 'I' is not apperant and false 'i' is parading itself. This false 'i' is the obstacle to your right knowledge. Find out from where this false 'i' arises. Then it'll disappear. You will then be only what you are, that is, Absolute being"
