|| Satsang-3A || (The REALITY - Intellectual understanding of it's presence)
Written on Guru Pournima day. (19th July 2016)
Last time there was this article written (http://punyaprakop.blogspot.ae/2016/06/satsang-3-dreams-real-purpose.html)
wherein we rationalized the fact, by scrutinizing the dream phenomena, that the
mind contains power of creating an unreal world (thought world) from within
and delude itself by its own creation and play inside as if it were an integral part of that
world.
Today, on this highly auspicious day of Guru Pournima, inspiration
came to conclude the previous thread as an offering to my Guru Ramana Maharshi
and Bhagavan Shiv.
There are three states of Ego-consciousness (Ahamkaar/ Ego-mind/i-feeling)
in our day to day experiences. They are 1) Wakeful 2) Dream and 3) Deep Sleep
(Gaadh Nindra/Sushupti). Our Ego consciousness experiences these 3 states by
turns and almost on daily basis.
Let’s try to scrutinize
all these 3 states. For convenience, let me use “i” (small i) representing
Ego-consciousness or Ego-Mind or Ahamkaar.
1) In so called wakeful state, “i” experiences the waking-world
through a certain body. It is also perceived as the 'solid' real world to this “i”.
2) When this particular body is tired and slips
into the Dream state, there appears another entirely different world in place
of the waking world. The “i” which is the 'same' now attaches itself to a different random body
and experiences an entirely different world which seems to have appeared at once (readily cooked). This so called dream-world is
equally real to this “i” while in dream state. "i" is so assured about the reality of this world that even a tiny doubt does not arise.
3) Then there arrive another state when “i” gets
tired and temporarily trips. We call it a Deep sleep/Sushupti mode. This is
completely blank state wherein there is no experiences of “i” and world. However,
upon coming out of the mode, ‘’i’’ feels deeply refreshed and happy.
If we ponder over all the three experiences mentioned
above, we realize that when “i” is active and
conscious, there is always existence of a world (waking or dream) and
experiences due to interactions. However, when “i” falls off temporarily in
deep sleep state, there is neither “i” nor any World and so no resultant experiences. Its a "blank" state as the perceiver "i" itself falls unconscious!
This is certainly intriguing and gives us a crucial clue. Few derivations can be made with fair amount of confidence from the above observations and its analysis.
a) The basis of worlds (waking and dream) and their
experiences is this “i”. Meaning, the world and its experiences thereof are only
available as long as this “i” is conscious.
b) The above point shows that “i“ is the root of
the entire creation.
c) This “i” is not the real or supreme power. Although we thought that this “i” creates worlds and plays in it with its extraordinary power, it is proven false when we go on decoding the deep sleep state. If this “i” were the real source of power, it’s not possible for it to become unconscious. The very fact that in the deep sleep mode, this “i” falls off into unconscious state, shows that it’s mutable and not the real source of power.

d) If the “i” is not the real source of power then there must be something else which supplies the power to this “i” (& all its worlds). The very fact that “i” comes back feeling ‘refreshed’ and ‘blissful’ from the deep sleep, indicates that it was blissfully sleeping (albeit unaware) in its source which charged it with sufficient power and that this unknown mysterious source of this entire play of “i” is of the nature of bliss. This phenomenon is like our cell phone. When its fully charged, the whole world inside cell phone goes on until it runs out of power. When charged by its source, the cell phone-world comes alive again. Similarly, when the “i” has sufficient power, its ongoing game of creating worlds and playing within it goes on in cycles of Waking & Dream. When the power goes below threshold, it trips (Deep sleep) into the ‘lap’ of *something* which again charges it sufficiently for it to play around in cycles of Waking & Dream states.
The above analysis sufficiently suggests that there is
one unknown entity which seems all powerful and which, in reality, sustains the “i”
(Ego Mind/Ego Consciousness/Ahamkaar) and entire creation perceived verily as waking world and dream world. It also strongly indicates that if this “i” in itself is unreal (a puppet with no power and existence of
its own), then the worlds which it experiences are also equally unreal (i.e.
comes and goes with it on the background of REALITY).
The analysis indicates that the REAL source is always
present in all the 3 states of “i” simply because IT’s the ORIGIN and
all the 3 states of Waking, dream and Deep sleep appearances are sustained by IT’s power. Upnishads calls this state of reality present through all 3 states
as “Turiya”.
The whole conscious or unconscious efforts of all of us ("i"s), such as seeking pleasures through physical senses, fantasies of mind, truth seeking, Spiritual practices, striving
for various Gods, different paths, liberation/Nirvan/Mukti/moksha are in essence, the efforts for realizing the ever present yet
unknown REALITY by completely dissolving “i” into this REAL “I”!
Birth, death & rebirth are for “i” and so the liberation
from this cycle is also pertaining only to it.
Permanent death/dissolution of this “i” is the MOKSHA which is nothing but irrevocable realization of this attribute-less, formless, ever present entity which is varily termed as Sat-Chit-Anand, Shiva, Self, Atma, Consciousness, Reality, I).

(Analysis is not the 1st of its kind. It is amply
present in Upnishads & other shaastras as well as in teachings of many of
our spiritual giants. Here was the attempt to put it as it is understood intellectually and intuitively)
